Our Services
Prenatal Care
Comprehensive prenatal care beginning in the first trimester, or whenvever you decide that Midwives on a Mission is right for you. Appointments allow ample time to develop trusting relationships with your midwife.
Visits are scheduled every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, and then every two weeks until 36 weeks, then weekly until labor begins.
Throughout midwifery care we engage in shared decision making and ongoing risk assessment by offering time and attention to each person, informed consent discussions, and appropriate use of lab tests, ultrasounds, medications, and consultation with other health care providers when necessary.
Labor Support
When you choose to give birth at home, one of your midwives will join you during active labor. You will labor and give birth in the comfort of your own home, with your midwives by your side, supporting you throughout the process. If you opt for a water birth, we offer birth pool rentals that provide a relaxing and suitable environment. You'll be encouraged to eat, drink, and move freely as your body guides you. Your home is a safe, private, and peaceful space where you can fully be yourself. While we bring all the necessary safety and diagnostic equipment, it remains discreetly tucked away, ready to be used if needed by our skilled midwives.
Postpartum Care
We continue to provide midwifery care for new parents for six weeks after birth.
We provide a home visit within 48 hours of the birth for important newborn screening tests and assistance with feeding, postpartum recovery and newborn care.
Additional postpartum visits are scheduled at two, and six weeks postpartum.
We provide all routine newborn care for the first two weeks of life including vitamin K administration and antibiotic eye medication, metabolic screening, critical congenital heart screening and hearing screening. We respect your right to make decisions regarding your newborn’s care.
Other Services
At Midwives on a Mission we offer Montrice services for those who desire to have their prenatal care with a midwife but desire to birth in the Hospital.
We also offer in home postpartum doula care for those clients who are needing a little more support postpartum. This includes care for the whole family.
What To Expect…
At Midwives on a Mission, our care goes beyond the physical aspects of pregnancy. We take the time to get to know you and your family, and we believe it’s just as important for you to get to know us. Each appointment lasts about an hour, depending on what’s happening both in your pregnancy and in your life. Midwifery care touches not only your physical well-being but also the emotional, spiritual, relational, and intellectual aspects of your journey. This holistic approach ensures that your care is well-rounded and not solely focused on the physical side of pregnancy.
We place a strong emphasis on nutrition, discussing how it plays a critical role in your well-being and in preventing common complications throughout your prenatal, birth, and postpartum experience. This will be a continuous conversation throughout your care. Exercise and education are key to understanding how your body works and why. Preparing both your body and mind during pregnancy helps you navigate birth and postpartum with confidence, reducing the chances of being caught off guard by the unexpected.
We currently serve families within a 60-mile radius of Mount Vernon, WA. Appointments are conducted in the comfort of your home on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays with office hours from 8am to 6pm. Births take place in your home, and for those desiring a water birth, birth pool rentals are available for $150. We offer free in-person consultations, which last up to an hour, before booking your first appointment. To schedule a consultation, please email us, and we’ll respond during regular business hours.
We also offer Montrice services for those clients desiring midwifery care for their prenatals and postpartum care, but desire to birth in the hospital. This is a great service for clients who wish to labor at home if possible before heading to the hospital. A Montrice or Labor Assistant is skilled at checking vitals such as blood pressure, fetal heart tones, assessing labor progress, newborn assessment, breastfeeding support, and antenatal education. A Monitrice does not perform these tasks at the hospital. A Monitrice does not make primary care decisions or diagnosis. You will receive all the typical support you can expect from a doula but with added clinical support from a trained Montrice/midwife assistant.
At the arrival of the hospital, the Montrice will assume the role of Doula only. No clinical support will be available. Your Montrice does not have hospital privileges and will not catch or assist in the birth without your provider present. While we believe in birth autonomy, if you choose to have no birth professional present (ie. freebirth), such as a midwife or OB, we will not be able to attend the birth as a montrice or doula.
If you are needing additional postpartum support a postpartum doula is available to you through Midwives on a Mission. A postpartum doula offers support to ensure both mother and baby have the care they need in the crucial days and weeks following the birth. As part of this service you will receive home visits or in-home care either during the day or at night to help with newborn care, breastfeeding support, and recovery from birth. Postpartum shifts range from 4 to 8 hours, giving flexibility for your specific needs. Assistance with feeding, baby care, and maternal health checks are included. This would be a separate fee.
